And it was definitely worth breaking royal protocol for…
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot yesterday at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, in quite possibly the most star-studded ceremony in history.
The ceremony and after party were attending by a long list of A-list royal wedding guests – we’re talking Victoria Beckham, Amal Clooney, Serena Williams and Oprah, to name a few.
But it wasn’t the guest list or even Elton John’s informal concert that got the world talking. Instead it was the refreshing modernity of the day, with the couple breaking royal protocol to make the wedding their own.
Prince Harry broke tradition by appointing Prince William as his Best Man and the couple removed the word ‘obey’ from their vows. But it was the appearances of the couple on the big day however that proved how times were changing.
Meghan stuck to the rules, walking down the aisle in a stunning bridal gown by British designer, Clare Waight Keller, the artistic director at the historic French fashion house Givenchy, before changing into a Stella McCartney gown for the royal wedding party.
It was Prince Harry however who broke tradition, sporting a beard to his wedding.
Given that he was wearing an army uniform, it is custom to be clean shaven, but according to reports, the Queen gave her grandson special permission to have facial hair on his big day.
‘Her Majesty The Queen gave her permission for Prince Harry to get married in his uniform’ announced Kensington Palace, with reports that the subject of Harry’s beard came up in the discussion and were approved by the Monarch.
It was definitely worth breaking royal protocol for.
